A bit pricey, but worth it since it is stainless throughout. I have had the smaller (3 cup) model for several years. I have dropped and kicked it several times. It has a few dents and dings but it is still doing its job - making great coffee. I needed more joe-to-go in the morning so I got the 6 cup model. It appears to be the same quality construction as the 3 cup model. The only difference other than size is that the 6 cup has a glass bubble rather a plastic one. If a few grounds in your cup bother you - Ooh my pristine gut - use a filter with it. Ya Heard!

Don't personally use this product, I purchased it for my mom who was used to a heavy-gauge aluminum old-school percolator. According to her, this new one makes a decent cup of coffee. As for the item itself, it is well constructed of stainless steel (although thin) with a heavy glass viewing bubble. The basket & stem are adequate but could've been machined better to fit more precisely in the decanter. The handle is made of a "permawood" material which I assume will not split or crack and helps the unit to "look" old-school. Dishwasher safe according to the description.

This is a great little replacement glass top for your percolator if it came with a plastic one like mine (B0009U5NEY) did. It fits different sized percolator top holes, and has a screw on metal bracket for under the lid so it still fastens to the lid nice and tight. And it will last much longer than the plastic one!

5.0 out of 5 stars Perfect Percolator top, March 10, 2009

this glass percolator top is perfect. I have used it on my Copco stove top Percolator for close to a year. It does not leak and is easy to remove if you need to do a detailed cleaning on it. I recommend removing the plastic ones that the percolator comes with and use this instead. I wash the percolator pieces in the dishwasher with the glass top and have not had any issues with it coming off. If it gets loose, you just tighten it back up.

5.0 out of 5 stars Perfect Kettle for Coffee!, March 24, 2005
By

I bought this kettle strictly for heating water for French press coffee making. Since this kettle is glass there is no chance of it imparting off flavors to the water (then the coffee). I got tired of my metal kettles becoming discolored and rusted, even with proper care. I love the idea of glass for coffee making and this kettle by Medelco is indispensable for coffee making!

It is also easy to clean (dishwasher safe) and looks wonderful. It holds 64 ounces of water when filled to the bottom of the rim, however DO NOT boil that much as it will erupt and shoot steaming water up out of the lid. I feel safe however boiling 50 to 55 ounces of water, which is more than enough for even the largest French presses.

I like to use a probe thermometer to monitor the water temp and stop at 200F, which is the ideal temperature for coffee brewing. This kettle does have a whistling lid that I use (I simply insert the thermometer into the whistling hole). The plastic... Read more

4.0 out of 5 stars Excellent but, October 15, 2005
Amazon Verified Purchase( What's this?)
I agree with everything said about this glass kettle except that the handle does definitely get too hot to hold with the bare hand. And I am someone who has a very high hand heat tolerance. IF you are willing to use some insulated cloth or holder to pour from this kettle when hot, it really does boil quickly and the whistle can be heard throughout a large house.

5.0 out of 5 stars Metallic-Taste Free!, January 19, 2006

Yay, no more metallic-tinged water! The pot comes with a wire coil shaped like a 3-leaf clover to place on electric burners, to diffuse the heat contact to the glass. I'm not completely convinced that the breathy whistle qualifies as 'piercingly loud,' but it gets the job done. The lid has a handle to minimize the risk of steam burns while removing it in order to pour (no pouring through the lid), and a shaped pour-spout minimizes drizzling. The "Diner-Flair" style is either cool or slightly disappointing, depending on my mood, but I don't drink straight from the kettle, so 'tis okay! Very good product; made in Connecticut. Medelco Inc. (not to be confused with the medical equipment makers) has a website, too.
